Messenger urges Bundaberg-Burnett retailers to do the right thing on ANZAC DAYEmail this pageBack

Member for Burnett Rob Messenger has condemned Kmart’s actions to apply for permission to trade before 1pm on ANZAC Day.

Mr Messenger said it was extremely disrespectful and beyond belief that Kmart would consider opening early on the morning of ANZAC Day, a day where the entire nation comes together and pauses to pay their respects to those who paid the supreme sacrifice for the freedom we share and enjoy today.

“I would hope that Bundaberg and Burnett retailers do the right thing and respect the ANZAC tradition and not follow suit of Kmart,” Mr Messenger said.

“The least we can do as a community is spend some time on ANZAC day to remember the fallen and the immense sacrifices that thousands of men and women have made over the years.

“I hope Kmart realises the importance of the day and withdraws its application to begin an early trade on ANZAC Day,” he said.
